5 Tips to Reduce Conflict with Your Co-Parent

Did you know that a best interest factor in Nevada is the level of conflict between parents? Well, it is!

What does that mean? The Court is required to consider the level of conflict between parents when deciding the timeshare or what period of time minor children spend with each parent.

How can conflict impact timeshare? If the conflict is very high, the Court may decide to give one parent limited timeshare with the minor child as a means to reduce conflict.

So, what can be done to reduce conflict? We suggest these five (5) simple and tips to help reduce conflict:

  1. Never bad-mouth your co-parent including venting to your children or around your children.
  2. Do not use the child to relay messages to your co-parent.
  3. Treat your co-parent the way you want to be treated.
  4. Sometimes you need to just walk away. It isn’t about being right, it is about keeping the child out of the conflict.
  5. Pause- Ask yourself, would I want the Judge to read the message you’re about to send? If the answer is NO, then take corrective action now and reword/redo the message (email, text, parenting application, etc.).
